MI. Dec 2, 2023. #1. I have a Savage B-mag 17 WSM that I acquired many years ago. Guy used it as a night time predator hunting rifle. It has a stripped rail to receiver bolt head, questionable threads on the rear stock to receiver and a "custom" sand painted textured original stock. I shot it once just to see if it shot and it did.

The 17 WSM sends a 20 grain bullet out at 3000 fps, whereas the HMR is sending a 17 grain bullet at 2550 fps. That makes for some difference in the field, with the HMR granting an MPBR of 165 yards, whereas the WSM can do it with 205 yards (I’m running calculations for gopher-sized targets).
